Hostal La Mexicana is at C/ Juan de Herrera 3, 3rd floor, in the pedestrian centre of Santander. Both arrival points — the RENFE/FEVE station and the bus station — are within 10 minutes on foot. The route is flat, well-signposted and straightforward even with luggage.

From the RENFE / FEVE station (8 minutes on foot)

The combined RENFE (national rail) and FEVE (narrow-gauge regional) station is on C/ Rodríguez, about 650 metres from the hostal.

  1. Exit the station by the main entrance on C/ Rodríguez and head south-east (towards the city centre and the bay).
  2. Walk along C/ Burgos or C/ Cádiz — the main pedestrian shopping streets running from the station area towards the Ayuntamiento (Town Hall). The streets are level and broad.
  3. At the Ayuntamiento, you're almost there. Look for C/ Juan de Herrera on your left (south side). The hostal is at number 3, on the 3rd floor. The door is visible from the start of the street.

Total: approximately 650 metres, 8 minutes at a comfortable pace. The route is entirely flat.

From the bus station (10 minutes on foot)

The long-distance and regional bus station is on C/ Navas de Tolosa, roughly 750 metres from the hostal.

  1. Exit the bus station onto C/ Navas de Tolosa and head south-east towards the centre.
  2. Walk through the pedestrian area — the streets between the station and the Ayuntamiento are mostly pedestrianised and easy to navigate.
  3. Find C/ Juan de Herrera at the south end of the Ayuntamiento area. Hostal La Mexicana is at number 3, 3rd floor.

Total: approximately 750 metres, 10 minutes. Slightly longer than from the train station but still straightforward.

By taxi from the station

Taxis wait outside the main exits of both the train and bus stations. The ride to C/ Juan de Herrera 3 takes 3–5 minutes (traffic permitting). Cost on the meter: approximately €5–7. The taxi cannot drive up to the hostal door on the pedestrian street, but can drop you at the entrance to C/ Juan de Herrera, from where it's 30 seconds on foot.

Taxi is a good option with very heavy luggage or in heavy rain. For one or two bags, the walk is quicker than waiting and loading.
