What booking direct actually changes
Hostal La Mexicana is a small, family-run 2-star hotel at C/ Juan de Herrera 3, a pedestrian street in the historic centre of Santander, open since 1952. Booking from this page instead of through a portal changes three concrete things: a 10% discount applies, there is no intermediary commission — what you pay goes to the hotel — and you speak to reception directly if you need to change something, with no portal in between.
One point worth clearing up before you book, because the name causes confusion in English: in Spain “hostal” is the old official term for a simple 2-star hotel. This is not a hostel and not a backpackers’ albergue. All 28 rooms are private and every one of them has its own private bathroom — there are no dormitories and no shared bathrooms.

There are six types among the 28 rooms: single (1 person, from 35 €/night), double (2, from 45 €), economy double (2, with two single beds, from 45 €), double with a view (2), triple (3) and quadruple (4). Getting here and what’s around you
The street is pedestrian, so cars cannot reach the door and we have no car park of our own: the usual approach is to leave the car in a central car park and walk the last stretch. No. C/ Juan de Herrera is pedestrian and we have no private car park. Most guests park in a central car park and walk from there.
